iPhone Duo: Apple's First Foldable Phone

Two days ago, I would say no. But this week, Apple says yes. Did they really make a folding iPhone?两天前，我会说不能。但这周，苹果说可以。他们真的做了折叠屏iPhone吗？
Yes. On September 9, in Cupertino, Apple held a 75-minute event called Surprise and Shine. The star was iPhone Duo, the first foldable iPhone.是的。9月9日，在库比蒂诺，苹果开了一场75分钟的发布会，叫Surprise and Shine。主角就是iPhone Duo，首款折叠屏iPhone。

New boss, new hello, new phone. Apple waited 7 years. Samsung made the first Galaxy Fold in 2019. Huawei and Xiaomi showed new foldables just one day before Apple.新老板、新问候、新手机。苹果等了7年。三星2019年就做了首款Galaxy Fold。华为和小米甚至比苹果早一天发了新折叠屏。
Seven years late? Then why is everyone still excited?晚了7年？那为什么大家还这么激动？
Because it is Apple, and because Duo tries to fix the old problems. Closed, it is the size of a passport. You can use it with one hand and put it in your pocket.因为它是苹果，也因为Duo想解决老问题。合上时，它只有护照大小。可以单手用，能轻松装进口袋。

Open, you get a 7.6-inch inner screen. Apple says it is 50% bigger than iPhone 18 Pro Max. It is also the thinnest iPhone ever. The outer screen is 5.4 inches.展开后，是7.6英寸内屏。苹果说比iPhone 18 Pro Max大50%。也是史上最薄的iPhone。外屏是5.4英寸。
Two screens with the same shape? So pictures do not look strange when you open and close?两块屏比例一样？所以开合时画面不会变形？
Exactly. Same aspect ratio, so content scales smoothly. Apple also added a nano-texture finish. It cuts glare and hides the crease.完全正确。同样的宽高比，内容等比缩放。苹果还加了纳米纹理表层，减少眩光，也让折痕更淡。
Crease is the line in the middle, right? That line was the biggest complaint for foldables.Crease就是中间那道折痕，对吧？那道线一直是折叠屏被吐槽最多的地方。
Yes. Apple did not use one magic fix. It used many layers that slide like book pages, plus a titanium plate and a carbon support. The hinge alone has more than 100 tiny parts.是的。苹果没靠单一黑科技。而是用多层像书页一样滑动的设计，加上钛合金板和碳纤维支撑。光铰链就有100多个精密小零件。
That sounds strong. What about power? A big screen eats battery.听起来很结实。那续航呢？大屏很费电吧。
Duo uses the new A20 Pro chip, a special vapor chamber for cooling, and two batteries. Apple promises all-day life. With outer screen, video can play up to 44 hours. With inner screen, up to 31 hours.Duo用了新的A20 Pro芯片，特制VC均热板散热，还有双电池。苹果承诺全天续航。外屏看视频最长44小时，内屏最长31小时。
And software? A folding screen is useless without good apps.软件呢？大屏上没好应用，折叠就白折了。
You hit the key point. Apple rebuilt iOS 27 for Duo. The Dock moves to the side. Controls stay in one fixed place. When you fold or flip, the system follows you.你说到关键了。苹果为Duo重做了iOS 27。Dock栏改成竖排。核心控件固定在侧边。你折叠或翻转，系统都会跟着变。
I also heard you can half-open it like a small tent?我还听说可以半折起来像小帐篷一样？
Yes. Half-open, it stands alone on a table. Great for video calls, workouts, or watching shows. It even supports Apple Pencil for notes and drawing.是的。半折后，它能自己立在桌上。很适合视频通话、健身课或追剧。还支持Apple Pencil，可以记笔记、画画。
So it is a phone plus a small tablet. What about cameras?所以它是手机加小平板。相机呢？

15999 yuan! That is the most expensive iPhone ever. When can people buy it?15999元！史上最贵的iPhone。什么时候能买？
Pre-orders start October 16, on sale October 23. That is about 5 weeks later than iPhone 18 Pro, which goes on sale September 18. iOS 27 arrives September 14.10月16日预购，10月23日开售。比iPhone 18 Pro晚约5周，18 Pro是9月18日开售。iOS 27在9月14日推送。
And the same event also had iPhone 18 Pro, Watch Series 12, Ultra 4, and AirPods 5, right? No regular iPhone 18?同场还有iPhone 18 Pro、手表Series 12、Ultra 4和AirPods 5，对吧？没有标准版iPhone 18？
Right. No regular iPhone 18 this time. Rumors say it may come next spring with a new Air. Pro starts at 9999 yuan, Pro Max at 10999 yuan in China.对。这次没有标准版iPhone 18。传闻说可能明年春天和新Air一起发。国行Pro起售9999元，Pro Max起售10999元。

Good catch. No Face id, only Touch id. No telephoto lens. No physical SIM slot, eSIM only worldwide. On the most expensive iPhone, that is a bold trade.抓得准。没有Face ID，只有Touch ID。没有长焦镜头。没有实体SIM卡槽，全球只支持eSIM。在最贵的iPhone上，这取舍很大胆。
